Montbazon Castle, more commonly known as the Fortress of Montbazon, is one of the oldest medieval fortifications in France.

Built in the late 10th century by Fulk Nerra, Count of Anjou, it occupies a strategic rocky promontory overlooking the Indre Valley and was designed to control important land and river routes. Over the centuries, the fortress was expanded with walls, towers, and additional defensive structures, becoming a key stronghold in the rivalry between the houses of Anjou and Blois.

A Renaissance residence was later added, and several notable figures, including French kings and nobles, stayed at the site. Although much of the later castle has disappeared, the impressive stone keep still dominates the landscape and remains the site's most iconic feature. Today, the restored fortress is open to visitors and is known for its historical reenactments, medieval workshops, and exhibits that bring the Middle Ages to life.
