Parc Arboretum du Manoir aux Loups
Halluin, France, France
The Parc Arboretum du Manoir aux Loups is a 5-hectare private arboretum located at 300 Route de Neuville in Halluin, Nord, France, just a few kilometers from Lille.
Created in 1930 by Belgian landscape architect Jules Buyssens as an English-style park, it was abandoned during World War II and then completely remodeled in 1950 by the new owners with renowned English gardener Percy Stephen Cane, who added grassy avenues, terraces, and sloping glacis that create remarkable perspective games with alternating elevations.
The park earned the prestigious "Jardin Remarquable" label from France's Ministry of Culture in 2004, making it the first in the Lille metropolitan area to receive this designation for its botanical, historical, and landscape beauty. Today it houses over 1,000 trees representing 324 conifer varieties and cultivars from five continents, plus 80 species of deciduous trees, creating beautiful seasonal color variations.
The park features diverse landscapes including woods, an pond, an orchard, a meadow, terraces, and even archery and tennis facilities, offering a peaceful 1.5-hour countryside walk on the south slopes of a hilly site. It opens from May 1 to November 11, 2025, with hours 10:00-12:00 and 14:30-18:00, admission is 5 euros for adults and free for children under 15, and visitors can choose between self-guided or guided tours.
