Parc de l'Étang
Battrans, France, France
Parc de l'Étang is a 3-hectare private park and botanical arboretum in Battrans, Haute-Saône, France, situated at the bottom of the Dhuys valley around an 80-are pond.
The park was created beginning in 1969 when the owners purchased wet pastureland crossed by the Dhuys stream, constructed the pond in 1971 using excavated soil to form surrounding berms and terraces, and completed most plantings between 1972–1975.
Today it functions as both a landscaped arboretum with nearly 350 varieties of trees and shrubs (labeled in Latin and French) and a pleasure garden with gravel paths, winding grass walkways, flower beds, a garden bridge, an artificial island, and a hydrangea collection. The garden is organized around a modern house overlooking the pond, with water and nature harmoniously integrated throughout.
It holds the prestigious "Jardin Remarquable" designation from the French Ministry of Culture (awarded in 2005) and has maintained this label for over ten years. The park is open by appointment from July 1–September 30 (Monday–Saturday, 2–6 PM), admission is free, and visits take about one hour; it has reduced accessibility for people with mobility challenges. Contact is 06 76 06 27 05 at 173 rue des Longeots, 70100 Battrans.
