Verified Parc du Rosay

Sablé-sur-Sarthe, France, France

Parc du Rosay in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, France, is a historic 4-hectare public park classified as a Monument Historique since 1992 and freely accessible to the public.

The park was created in the early 18th century by François VIELLE in a wild location where a wolf was reportedly shot in 1808 at a place called "la Roche," and after his death it was inherited by his nephew Joseph-Michel VIELLE, who later donated the park to the city of Sablé upon his death in 1890.

The park features various tree species planted by former owners who were passionate about horticulture, including notable cedars and oak trees, and offers walking paths attached to cliffs overlooking the Sarthe river with beautiful viewpoints on the city, the viaduct, and the Abbaye de Solesmes.

New pedestrian pathways were installed in the park's upper section in 2023, inviting visitors to stroll and enjoy scenic views. Located at 37 Rue des Jumeaux near the city center and close to Espace Henri Royer, the park is situated in a natural setting that combines historical heritage with outdoor recreation.
