Saint-Béat, located in the Haute-Garonne department of southwestern France, is a village with a rich history dating back to Roman times when it was known as "Passus Lupi" or the Wolf's Pass due to the narrow passage along the Garonne River.

The village is famous for its medieval Château de Saint-Béat, built in the 12th century and later expanded by King Henri IV. Though rulers rarely resided there, the castle held strategic importance for guarding the border near Spain and was nicknamed "the key to France."

Saint-Béat is also renowned for its marble quarries, which have been exploited since Roman times; its statuary white marble was especially prized and used in notable places like the Palace of Versailles. The village hosts an annual marble and sculpture festival celebrating this heritage. Today, Saint-Béat offers scenic views over the Garonne valley, historic sites, and serves as a gateway to outdoor activities in the Pyrenees mountains.
