Saint-Chaptes is a rural commune in the Gard department of southern France's Occitanie region, located about 25 kilometers from Nîmes at the foot of the Cévennes amid fertile plains once flooded by the Gardon River.

With around 2,055 residents known as Saint-Chaptois, it boasts prehistoric roots including stilt villages and Iron Age menhirs, plus Gallo-Roman artifacts, evolving through medieval times as Villa Sancta Agatha with protective ramparts now gone.

The village centers on two private historic castles—the medieval Château de Saint-Chaptes with twin towers and verdant grounds, and the 19th-century Château de la Tour featuring a Viollet-le-Duc échauguette—both protected monuments alongside a Romanesque church, Protestant temple, ancient fountains, and dry-stone capitelles.

Surrounded by vineyards and grain fields in a balanced agricultural landscape, it maintains a peaceful rhythm tied to seasonal farming.
