Sanzay is a small historic hamlet within the commune of Argentonnay in the Deux-Sèvres department of western France.

It is best known for the Château de Sanzay, a medieval fortress built in the 13th century near the former border between the regions of Anjou and Poitou. The castle was constructed in a marshy area and protected by extensive moats and defensive structures. Although much of the original fortress has disappeared, important remains survive, including the entrance gatehouse, parts of the fortifications, a keep, and a chapel.

Listed as a French historic monument since 1930, the site has undergone archaeological research and restoration efforts that have revealed more of its medieval layout and history. Today, Château de Sanzay is both a heritage attraction and a community space, hosting cultural, educational, and environmental activities while preserving one of the region’s most distinctive medieval landmarks.
