Seine-Maritime is a department in the Normandy region of northern France, stretching along the English Channel and the lower Seine River.

Its capital is Rouen, while Le Havre is its largest city and one of France’s most important ports. The department was known as Seine-Inférieure until 1955 and is home to more than 1.2 million people. The area is famous for its dramatic Alabaster Coast, where white chalk cliffs rise above the sea, including the iconic cliffs of Étretat. 

It also features the Seine Valley, historic towns, rolling countryside, and a rich maritime heritage shaped by shipping, fishing, and trade. Seine-Maritime combines natural beauty with cultural and historical significance. Visitors are drawn to landmarks such as Rouen’s medieval center, Le Havre’s UNESCO-listed architecture, scenic coastal resorts, and numerous abbeys, castles, and museums that reflect the region’s long history.
