Taureau Fort, also known as Château du Taureau, is a striking sea fortress built on a rocky islet in the Bay of Morlaix, off the coast of Plouezoc’h in Brittany.

The first fortifications were created after an English attack on Morlaix in 1522, and the fortress was later rebuilt and strengthened between the late 17th and mid-18th centuries under plans inspired by the military engineer Vauban to protect the bay’s main shipping channel. Over the years, the fort served several roles, including coastal defense, a prison, military accommodation, and even a training center.

After losing its military importance in the 19th century, it fell into decline before undergoing extensive restoration. Today, the fortress is a popular visitor attraction accessible only by boat. Surrounded by the waters of the Bay of Morlaix, it offers impressive views, historic interiors, and a fascinating insight into Brittany’s maritime and military heritage.
