Générargues, France, France

The Bamboo Cévennes, formally known as La Bambouseraie en Cévennes, is a unique exotic botanical garden in Générargues, France, classified as one of the most beautiful gardens in France and unique in Europe for its bamboo specialization.

Created in 1856 by botanist Eugène Mazel, who traveled to China and Southeast Asia studying silkworms and became fascinated with bamboo, the garden spans 12 hectares and features over 1,000 varieties of bamboo, trees, and remarkable plants from five continents.

The garden includes a bamboo maze, a Japanese alley with a replica pagoda, historic greenhouses founded by Mazel, a bamboo grove, a Chinese palm grove, and other remarkable trees such as redwoods, tulip trees, ginkgo biloba, magnolias, and camellias. Visitors can explore peaceful paths lined with towering bamboo, enjoy serene Japanese-style gardens with ponds and rocks, and experience nature in perpetual movement across seasons.

The site is committed to biodiversity conservation, holds the "Esprit parc national" brand since 2019, serves as an LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) refuge, and practices environmental recycling. Open daily year-round with varying hours by season, admission is €14.80 for adults, and a typical visit lasts 1.5 to 3 hours.
