It was originally part of a larger castle built by the local lords to control the strategic route between Paris and Orléans. The tower was expanded in the late 14th century with extra floors, a wall walk, and fireplaces added to strengthen its defense. It played a significant role in regional conflicts over centuries, including resistance against royal forces and sieges during the Hundred Years’ War.

By the late 16th century, the castle was dismantled except for the tower, which remains well preserved today. It served as a site for scientific experiments in the 19th century and is now a historic monument, symbolizing the medieval history and architecture of the region while offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
