Tourelles Castle (Château des Tourelles) is a striking medieval fortress in Vernon, Normandy, built in 1196 by King Philip II of France during the struggle between France and England for control of Normandy.

Positioned beside the Seine River, it was designed to protect the town and guard access to the important medieval bridge crossing the river. The castle is notable for its distinctive design, featuring a square central tower flanked by four round turrets. Remarkably, it has remained largely unchanged for more than 800 years, making it one of the best-preserved examples of its type in France.

Over the centuries, the château served various purposes, including a fortress, mill, prison, and military facility. Damaged during World War II, it was later restored and remains an important historic monument. Today, it is one of Vernon’s most recognizable landmarks and a symbol of the town’s medieval heritage.
