The Ancient Theatre of Plevrona is a small but distinctive Hellenistic theatre located within the ancient fortified city of Plevrona near Messolonghi in western Greece.

Built in the late 3rd century BC, it is believed to have originally served as a council chamber before being converted into a theatre. What makes the theatre unique is its integration with the city’s defensive walls and a nearby tower, which likely served as part of the stage facilities. Part of the structure is carved into natural rock, while other sections are built from carefully cut stone blocks, showcasing the ingenuity of ancient Greek architecture.

Today, the theatre is an important archaeological monument known for its remarkably scenic setting. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views over the Mesolonghi lagoon, the Gulf of Patras, and the surrounding countryside while exploring one of ancient Aetolia’s most impressive historical sites.
