Avlonari Tower
Avlonari, Greece, Greece
The Avlonari Tower is a well-preserved medieval Venetian tower located in the village of Avlonari on the island of Euboea (Evia), Greece. Built between the late 14th and early 15th centuries, it served as part of a network of watchtowers used to transmit signals and monitor the surrounding area. Standing about 19 meters tall with four floors, the stone tower was designed for defense, featuring small openings on the lower levels and larger windows higher up. During the Ottoman era it was used as the residence of a local official, and after Greek independence it served various civic functions, including as a town hall. Restored in 1953, the tower remains the village’s most important landmark and is considered one of the best-preserved Venetian towers in Euboea. It offers visitors a glimpse into the island’s medieval history and the period of Venetian influence in Greece.
