Bazeos Tower
Naxos and Lesser Cyclades, Greece, Greece
Bazeos Tower is a historic 17th-century fortified tower near Sangri on the island of Naxos, Greece. Originally built as the Monastery of the Holy Cross, it served both religious and defensive purposes during a period when island communities needed protection from pirate raids and other threats. In the late 19th century, the property was acquired by the Bazeos family, whose name it bears today. After extensive restoration completed around 2000, the tower was transformed into a cultural venue while preserving its distinctive stone architecture and historical character. Today, Bazeos Tower is one of Naxos’s most famous landmarks, hosting art exhibitions, cultural events, and the annual Naxos Festival. Surrounded by the island’s rural landscape, it offers visitors a unique blend of history, architecture, and contemporary culture.
