The Byzantine Tower of Prosphorion is the most famous landmark in Ouranoupoli, a coastal town in Halkidiki that serves as the gateway to Mount Athos. Built in the 14th century as part of a monastic estate belonging to the Vatopedi Monastery, the tower was designed to protect the area from pirate attacks and other threats along the coast. Over the centuries, the tower survived earthquakes, fires, and several periods of reconstruction, resulting in a structure that combines Byzantine, Ottoman, and later architectural elements. It is considered the largest and best-preserved Byzantine tower in Halkidiki and remains an outstanding example of medieval defensive architecture. Today, the tower houses historical exhibits and serves as a symbol of Ouranoupoli.
