Tower of Aghiá
Greece, Greece
The Tower of Aghiá (Agia Tower) is a historic stone tower located on the island of Naxos, Greece, overlooking the Aegean Sea from a strategic position on the island’s northwestern coast. Built in the 17th century during the post-Byzantine period, it served both as a fortified residence for the noble Kokkos family and as a lookout point for spotting pirate raids and other threats approaching by sea. The three-story tower was constructed from local Naxian stone and was part of a larger estate that included warehouses and an olive press. Its elevated location provided excellent visibility over the coastline and surrounding countryside. Although a fire in 1992 severely damaged the interior, much of the exterior structure still stands, giving visitors a glimpse of its former grandeur. Today, the tower is a notable historical landmark known for its architecture, scenic setting, and panoramic sea views, and it remains one of the most interesting heritage sites in northern Naxos.
