The Archaeological Site of Orchomenos is one of the most important ancient sites in Boeotia, central Greece, with a history stretching from the Neolithic era through the Mycenaean and Hellenistic periods.

In antiquity, Orchomenos was a wealthy and powerful city, often referred to as “Minyan Orchomenos,” and it rivaled nearby Thebes in influence and prosperity. The site is best known for the magnificent Treasury of Minyas, a large Mycenaean tholos, or beehive-shaped tomb, dating to around the 13th century BC. Archaeologists have also uncovered remains of a Mycenaean palace, fortifications, an ancient theater, and religious sanctuaries, revealing the city’s importance as a political, cultural, and economic center.

Orchomenos was renowned for its engineering achievements, including large-scale drainage projects around Lake Kopais that created fertile agricultural land and contributed to the city's wealth. The city also played a role in Greek mythology and is mentioned in Homer’s Iliad as a participant in the Trojan War. Today, visitors can explore the ancient theater, the impressive Treasury of Minyas, the acropolis, and other archaeological remains, gaining insight into one of the most significant centers of Mycenaean Greece.
