Balos Lagoon, located on the Gramvousa Peninsula in the Chania Region of Crete, is one of Greece’s most spectacular coastal landscapes.

The lagoon is famous for its shallow turquoise waters, white sand with occasional pink hues from crushed shells, and stunning views toward the nearby Gramvousa islands. The warm, shallow waters create a natural lagoon that is ideal for swimming and wading, while the surrounding rocky hills and pristine coastline add to its dramatic beauty. Its vivid blue and emerald colors have made it one of the most photographed locations in Crete.

The area is protected as part of the Natura 2000 network because of its rich biodiversity, including rare plants, migratory birds, monk seals, and sea turtles.
