The Castle of Didymoteicho is a large Byzantine fortress located on a hill above the town of Didymoteicho in northeastern Greece.

Its origins date back to at least the 6th century, when Emperor Justinian I strengthened the site’s defenses due to its strategic position overlooking key routes toward Constantinople. Throughout its history, the castle played an important role in Byzantine, Bulgarian, Latin, and Ottoman conflicts. It served as a military stronghold, an imperial residence, and a center of political activity during the Byzantine civil wars of the 14th century.

Today, the castle remains one of the most significant medieval fortifications in Thrace and the Balkans.
