Exomvourgo is a striking granite mountain on the island of Tinos in the Cyclades, rising about 640 meters above sea level and dominating the island’s landscape. Unlike most Cycladic hills, it has a rugged, dramatic appearance and is surrounded by traditional villages and scenic hiking trails. The mountain is famous for the ruins of a major Byzantine and Venetian fortress that once served as the administrative and defensive center of Tinos. For centuries, the fortified town on its summit protected the island from pirate raids and Ottoman attacks, remaining one of the strongest castles in the Aegean until its fall in 1715. Today, Exomvourgo is valued for its rich history, archaeological remains, and panoramic views across Tinos and the surrounding Aegean Sea. Visitors come to explore the castle ruins, historic churches, and walking paths while enjoying one of the island’s most iconic landmarks.
