The Acropolis of Lindos on Rhodes Island dates back to the 10th century BC, founded by the Dorians, and is best known for the Temple of Athena Lindia, initially constructed in the 6th century BC and rebuilt in the 4th century BC after being destroyed by fire.

Perched on a towering cliff overlooking the Mediterranean, the Acropolis served as a religious sanctuary and a strategic fortress through various eras. Its architecture reflects a blend of historical periods, prominently featuring Doric style in the temple, alongside Hellenistic, Byzantine, and medieval elements such as the large stoa, massive stairways, and fortification walls.

Over time, it played key roles in local defense and worship, with additions made by the Knights of St. John in the 14th century who fortified the site further. The Acropolis of Lindos is also notable for the ancient Rhodian trireme carved in rock at its base, symbolizing its maritime power. Today, it offers breathtaking views and a layered history visible in its ruins, representing the cultural and architectural legacy of Lindos and the wider island of Rhodes.
