The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion, is one of the most important ancient monuments in Athens, Greece.

Dedicated to Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods, construction began in the 6th century BC but was not completed until the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian in 131–132 AD, making it one of the longest building projects of the ancient world. At its height, the temple was the largest in Greece, featuring 104 massive Corinthian columns and housing a colossal statue of Zeus. It was renowned for its immense scale and grandeur, symbolizing the wealth and ambition of ancient Athens.

Although much of the structure was destroyed over the centuries, several towering columns still stand today near the Acropolis, offering a striking reminder of its former magnificence. The ruins remain one of Athens’ most famous archaeological sites and provide visitors with a glimpse into the city’s rich classical and Roman-era history.
