The Venetian Castle of Parga is the town’s most famous landmark, standing on a rocky hill above the harbor and overlooking the Ionian Sea.

Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, and it was extensively rebuilt and strengthened by the Venetians after Parga came under their control in 1401, serving as a key defensive stronghold against pirate raids and Ottoman attacks. Over the centuries, the castle was repeatedly damaged, destroyed, and reconstructed due to conflicts between Venetian and Ottoman forces.

The impressive fortress seen today reflects several phases of rebuilding and expansion, with much of its current form developed during Venetian and later French periods. Today, the castle is one of the most important historical attractions in Epirus.
